MULTI-FACETED, MULTI-FUNCTIONAL POLYMER MODIFIED CONCRETE
This article outlines the many benefits of polymer modified concrete for repairs and overlays of concrete bridges and repairs of structural concrete. This material has a unique combination of properties that give it the following advantages: (1) improved adhesion; (2) reduced permeability to chlorides and other pollutants, without the problems associated with a full water vapour barrier; (3) substantially improved performance in cold and freezing weather; (4) increased flexural strength and wear resistance; (5) superior performance in thin overlays. These benefits are achieved using a material which can be mixed, placed and finished using conventional techniques. Over 900 bridge decks have been repaired using this type of material. (TRRL)
