DRAINAGE PAVEMENTS AND THEIR CONTRIBUTION TO NOISE REDUCTION

LE PAVMENTAZIONI DRENANTE ED IL LORO CONTRIBUTO ALLA RIDUZIONE DELLA RUMOROSITA

This paper deals specifically with tyre-road noise, to the exclusion of engine noise. The measurement method consisted of microphones placed at the sides of the road, by means of which the noise can be compared on different surfacings but with the same traffic flows and a comparable acoustic environment. The main advantage of the method is that it enables the conditions of a given zone to be evaluated, eliminating temporary noise sources from the calculation. The survey was carried out on experimental sections on the same carriageway, measuring the leq values before and after laying the antinoise bituminous surfacing. A table of test results shows an attenuation of 3.3 to 3.68 dba attributable to the antinoise mixture tested. Details are given of the mix design of the sound absorbent, drainage surfacing. (TRRL)
