THE QUADRATIC PARABOLA AS AN INTRINSIC CURVE OF WEARING COURSES. PART 2, APPLICATION TO IMPERMEABLE BITUMINOUS MIXTURES

LA PARABOLA, QUADRATICA QUALE CURVA INTRINSECA DEI MANTI D'USURA STRADALI. II PARTE, APPLICAZ AI CONGLOMERATI BITUMINOSI IMPERMEABILI

Based upon the gradual progression from one type of failure to another in impermeable bituminous mixtures, the parabolic intrinsic curve (described in part 1 of this study) is used to develop some simple formulae for calculating the mechanical characteristics of bituminous materials, using only the simple compression and indirect tensile tests. In the proposed procedure it is shown that these two tests can also be used separately, enabling the derivation of the probable interval of cohesion variation. (TRRL)
