A STUDY OF THE ATTITUDES TOWARDS MULTIRACIAL PUBLIC TRANSPORT SERVICES IN THE COASTAL CITIES OF SOUTH AFRICA
A survey was undertaken to investigate the attitudes of the different race groups towards desegregation of public transport. Support for multiracial services was very high among indians, coloureds and blacks. Whites were less in favour, but nevertheless the majority favoured desegregated public transport. Resistance to desegregation will come mainly from the white africaans speaking section of the population. Attitudes towards desegregation will, however, be strongly related to the quality of service provided. (Author/TRRL)
