STATISTICS OF HYSTERETIC ENERGY DISSIPATED UNDER RANDOM DYNAMIC LOADING
A study is described in which an equivalent linearization technique is used to investigate the behavior of the mean and, particularly, the coefficient of variation (c.o.v.) of the hysteretic energy dissipated. The accuracy of the equivalent linearization technique to predict the standard deviation and coefficient of variation of the hysteretic energy dissipated is demonstrated by comparison with Monte Carlo simulation results. After verification of the accuracy of the equivalent linearization, the technique, together with sensitivity anslysis is used to investigate the behavior of the standard deviation and c.o.v. of the hysteretic energy dissipated.
