PROFILE OF AN ORGANIZATION: INSTITUTE OF TRANSPORTATION STUDIES, UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, BERKELEY
The Institute of Transportation Studies, University of California, Berkeley, celebrated its fortieth anniversary in the winter of 1988. From a small group of engineering faculty and an $80,000 budget in 1948, the organization has emerged as a major institution in the transportation field with over 75 faculty members and more than $6 million annually in funding. This article discusses the establishment and goals of the Institute of Transportation Studies, as well as its past research activities and current research program.
