DEVELOPMENT OF STRESS EVALUATION SCALES. DISCRIMINANT ANALYSIS OF GASTROINTESTINAL STRESS PATIENTS USING URINARY BIOCHEMICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL MEASURES
In order to totally evaluate individuals' stress, it is necessary to develop an assessment technique combining biochemical measures with psychological measures. From this view point, measurement of excretal concentrations of six urinary biochemicals and assessment of stress factors, personalities and stress responses by a self-reported stress checklist were conducted on 50 patients with digestive diseases caused by stress and samples of 75 normal control subjects. The biochemical concentration values were transferred to the categorical variables according biological functions. Discriminant analysis was performed to clarify the relationships between those two kinds of measures. The results suggested that each measure independently contributed to the discrimination, hit ratio of which was about 0.7. Results also provided qualified support for the differences in the three measures: low level of catecholamines, job situation, and nervous and depressive personality.
