EXPERTS EXPLORE ABCS OF SMALL RAILROADING

At a short line seminar held at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, some of the basics of small railroading were discussed. They include assessing strengths and weaknesses, having a plan as to present and future cash flow needs, spending money for rehabilitating track wisely and timely, being aware of labor laws and complying with them, having a good working relationship with workers, recognizing good performance and rewarding extra efforts, keeping workers involved in various aspects of the business and working towards becoming self-sufficient as government funds will not always be available.
