UGANDANS FACE UPHILL STRUGGLE AT ENTEBBE

Assistance from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is bringing Entebbe back to its former status as the major aviation center for central and eastern Africa. Years of unrest in the area deterred air traffic from Entebbe to Nairobi and other places. So much deterioration, neglect and destruction has left Uganada in need of technical assistance from all over to restore the air navigation and ATC infrastructure as well as repair and rehabilitate floors, escalators, lighting and baggage conveyors, etc. The government is helping in these efforts by establishing an autonomous civil aviation authority. As many of the experienced workers are nearing retirement age, recruitment and training of young aviation oriented people is needed. Its ideal location affords Entebbe plenty of room for growth.
