ASSESSMENT OF THE POTENTIAL FOR MAGNETIC LEVITATION TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS IN THE UNITED STATES. A REPORT TO CONGRESS
The Fiscal Year 1989 Appropriations Committee Conference Report (100-957) directed the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) to undertake an analysis of the feasibility of magnetic levitation, or maglev, transportation systems in the United States. This report addresses in detail the questions posed by the Congress and is divided into the following sections: Introduction and Background; Current state of maglev technology; Preliminary analysis of the technical feasibility of maglev systems; Preliminary analysis of the economic feasibility of maglev systems; and Measures to promote U.S. leadership in maglev development.
