A progress report of the research investigations being carried out on the problem of stress-corrosion cracking of high strength materials under ARPA order 878 is presented. Work at Carnegie-Mellon University, Lehigh University, Georgia Institute of Technology, The Boeing Company, American University, and the Naval Research Laboratory concerning test techniques, materials characterization, physical metallurgy, surface studies, and corrosion fatigue is described. The report is divided into three main sections covering work on high strength titanium, steel and aluminum. Included is a section containing abstracts of recently published reports, journal articles, and talks generated under ARPA Order 878. Selected abstracts of articles from outside the ARPA program in the field of stress-corrosion cracking are also included as well as a Diary of Events section. ( Author )
