SIDE REFLECTION ON BICYCLES 1986-1988

The number of bicycles with side reflection was counted in December 1988 and compared to similar earlier counts. About 73% of the bicycles were provided with side reflection. In 1987 this was around 70%. Bicycles in bicycle sheds were checked, in schools and in stations. Only 60% of the bicycles checked on the road had side reflection, as did the bicycles checked at stations. 60% of the bicycles had reflection on the tyres, the rest on the spokes. 70% of the cycles with reflection also use their lamps, 36% of the cyclists without side reflection. The quality of the side reflection could not be measured. (Author/TRRL)
