WATER PERMEABILITY OF COATING FILMS USING A RADIOISOTOPE TRACER TECHNIQUE

The report deals with the development of an accurate and rapid method of determining moisture permeability through protective coatings using radiochemical techniques. It demonstrates that the radiochemical method, as compared to ASTM Standard Method, is precise, sensitive and rapid. This method has been used to analyze variables which may have a significant effect on the moisture permeability of paint films. The variables analyzed include film thickness, vapor pressure, temperature, generic type of vehicle, type of pigment concentration, and moisture diffusion in liquid or vapor form. ( Author )
