TRAFFIC COUNTS AND CLASSIFICATIONS: DISTRIBUTED DATA PROCESSING. SECOND INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ROAD TRAFFIC MONITORING

This paper describes a series of EDP (environment development plan) systems called mastra currently being developed by the Danish road directorate. Mastra analyses data from road traffic counts and classifications. These systems are used by both the local and the national road authorities. Mastra is a distributed system consisting of a central data base for the entire country (placed at the road data laboratory) and several pc-systems fitted to the demands of the different kinds of users. Each user has a pc-system which can work independently of the central system. The description focuses on principles rather than the detailed functions, and it contains a little case story to illustrate how the system works. The complete mastra system is described although all the phases are not developed yet. The present state of the project is summarized at the end of the paper. (TRRL)
