ENVIRONMENT, SOCIETY AND TRAFFIC . TRANSPORTATION PLANNING COLLOQUIUM 1988, THE NETHERLANDS IN WHITE PAPERS. STRATEGY AND PRAGMATISM IN POLICY AND RESEARCH. THE HAGUE 24-25. 1988, VOLUME I. II, AND III
MILIEU, MAATSCHAPPIJ EN VERKEER
The extensive use of cars poses a serious threat to the environment. A passenger traffic system for the year 2010 that fulfills a set of stringent ecological conditions is described. This plan, called 'Schoon Op Weg', is technically and financially possible. Recently the Dutch government has also presented a number of plans for the future. In this article these plans are analysed with a view to the environmental problems. The decisions, needed for the implementation of the new passenger traffic system, are discussed. (Author/TRRL)
