The current bottle-necks in the area of transport and traffic will be overcome as soon as the transport and traffic research renders solutions to the traffic and transport policy makers. The traffic and transportation policy seems to be increasingly squeezed between increasing car use on the one hand and increasingly strict rules and standards in order to maintain proper environmental standards on the other. Possible solutions, however, happen to be rather difficult to implement due to the restrictive budget policies of public authorities. Nevertheless decisions should be taken. As regards the preparation of the decision as integrated multi-disciplinary long term approach seems to be a viable way. (Author/TRRL)
