A METHOD AND A PROGRAM FOR MESH GENERATION IN GEOMECHANICS. PROCEEDINGS OF THE SIXTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON NUMERICAL METHODS IN GEOMECHANICS, 11-15 APRIL 1988, INNSBRUCK, AUSTRIA. VOLUMES 1 - 3

A method is proposed for automatic generation of finite element meshes as imposed deformation of basic figures of standard grids to the arbitrary shape of the area of the structure subdomains. In the case of two-dimensional problems, the basic figures are rectangles and triangles (or trapezia treated as truncated triangles). The task is reduced to the solution of the problem of deformation of joint linear bar systems by finite element method (fem) analysis at imposed displacements to the contour and to some internal points, if required. A calculation program has been made for triangular element mesh generation in the case of the two-dimensional problems. (Author/TRRL)
