INTERACTIVE MODELLING SYSTEM FOR FINITE ELEMENT APPLICATIONS IN GEOMECHANICS. PROCEEDINGS OF THE SIXTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON NUMERICAL METHODS IN GEOMECHANICS, 11-15 APRIL 1988, INNSBRUCK, AUSTRIA. VOLUMES 1 - 3

The finite element method (fem) has long been shown to be suitable for calculating geotechnical problems as well as structural problems. However, an efficient use of fem requires program systems, which allow a comfortable and fast process of modelling, investigation and optimization of structural variants and interactive design and calculation. Classical fem programs and their pre- and postprocessors do not meet these tasks. The paper describes a software tool, which was designed in order to assist the engineer in the modelling process. It allows for parameter studies, optimization of design and use of the expert's knowledge. (Author/TRRL)
