TWO DIMENSIONAL NONLINEAR RESPONSE ANALYSIS DURING EARTHQUAKES BASED ON THE EFFECTIVE STRESS METHOD. PROCEEDINGS OF THE SIXTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON NUMERICAL METHODS IN GEOMECHANICS, 11-15 APRIL 1988, INNSBRUCK, AUSTRIA. VOLUMES 1 - 3

In order to examine the stability of foundation ground and structure during earthquakes, the nonlinear response analysis program based on the effective stress method (nonlinear analysis of fluid-solid system, program nafss) has been developed. In this analysis, equations of motion are introduced from Biot's porous elastic material theory and nonlinearity of soil properties expressed by constitutive relations based on the elasto-plastic theory. Application of this program to two dimensional ground-structure interaction problem indicate that the results of this analysis reasonably simulate the ground behavior during earthquakes. (TRRL)
