NONLINEAR PILE DRIVING PROBLEMS CALCULATED IN THE LAPLACE DOMAIN. PROCEEDINGS OF THE SIXTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON NUMERICAL METHODS IN GEOMECHANICS, 11-15 APRIL 1988, INNSBRUCK, AUSTRIA. VOLUMES 1 - 3

In this paper a method is presented which analyses the effects of wave propagation in the soil as well as local nonlinearities. Using a step by step method in the LaPlace domain the calculation is expanded for nonlinear pile driving problems. The nonlinear calculation is divided in a number of linear steps, where every linear step obviously satisfies the superposition condition. The nonlinearity is dealt with in the time domain and the results of every step are transformed between LaPlace and time domain and vice versa. Because of the large number of transformations a very fast and precisely calculating transform algorithm is needed. Therefore the LaPlace transform is reduced to the Fourier transform and an fft algorithm is used, which is undoubtedly very efficient. (TRRL)
