The ultimate uplift resistance of a cohesive soil, in the case of a multi underreamed deep anchor, is estimated for undrained loading conditions, by the finite element method, on the basis of its tensile strength and anchor displacements. Multi underreaming is effected by providing one similar additional anchor base in one case and two additional similar bases in another case. The computations show that multi underreaming increases the ultimate uplift resistance as compared to the anchor with single base. Further, the computations show that multi underreaming with increased number of bases may not be more advantageous. (Author/TRRL)
