SEMI-ANALYTICAL FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS OF LATERALLY LOADED PILES. PROCEEDINGS OF THE SIXTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON NUMERICAL METHODS IN GEOMECHANICS, 11-15 APRIL 1988, INNSBRUCK, AUSTRIA. VOLUMES 1 - 3

The present study focusses on the behaviour of the pile-soil system, subjected to static lateral load within elastic limits using semianalytical finite element technique. Straight, vertical piles in homogeneous soils, layered soils, soils with linearly varying modulus, as well as battered and the tapered piles subjected to lateral load have been studied. The results are presented in nondimensional form. The effect of provision of interface elements between the pile and soil media has been discussed. The results, from the above technique are compared with those of two and three dimensional finite element analyses and the relative computational efforts required for the above methods is presented.
