ELASTIC-PLASTIC PILE-FRAMES INTERACTION. PROCEEDINGS OF THE SIXTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON NUMERICAL METHODS IN GEOMECHANICS, 11-15 APRIL 1988, INNSBRUCK, AUSTRIA. VOLUMES 1 - 3

A finite element (fe) algorithm for small deformation incremental plasticity is presented for the analysis of a plane frame interacting with a piled foundation. Both the frame and the piles, consisting of an elasto-plastic material, are analysed by using beam variables. For the interaction with the soil medium, non-linear load transfer functions are used. The solution of the non-linear equations arising from the discretization is obtained by a Newton iteration procedure optimized by 'slack' line search. A few examples show the structural response for proportional, non-proportional and cyclic loading. (TRRL)
