FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS OF DOWNDRAG ON PILES. PROCEEDINGS OF THE SIXTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON NUMERICAL METHODS IN GEOMECHANICS, 11-15 APRIL 1988, INNSBRUCK, AUSTRIA. VOLUMES 1 - 3
A finite element method of analysis is presented which enables the downdrag forces acting on a single compressible pile to be computed. The tip of the pile is assumed to be resting on a perfectly rigid base, while the surrounding soil is treated as a poroelastic material which is consolidating under a surface loading. Slip is allowed between the pile and the soil according to an effective stress law. Results are presented for the distribution of shear stresses with time along the pile shaft and for the shortening of the pile with time. (TRRL)
