SHEAR ELEMENT TECHNIQUES FOR TUNNEL DESIGN. PROCEEDINGS OF THE SIXTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON NUMERICAL METHODS IN GEOMECHANICS, 11-15 APRIL 1988, INNSBRUCK, AUSTRIA. VOLUMES 1 - 3
The use of a simple shear element and associated techniques for the estimation of rock loads, ground reaction curves and failure modes in blocky rock where rock strength is dominated by weak joints and sheared zones is described. The application of these techniques is extended to estimate the primary support requirement (shotcrete and rockbolt) and performance assessment for a major rock chamber constructed in Victoria, Australia.
