SOME CONSTITUTIVE LAWS FOR CREEPING SOIL AND FOR RATE-DEPENDENT SLIDING AT INTERFACES. PROCEEDINGS OF THE SIXTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON NUMERICAL METHODS IN GEOMECHANICS, 11-15 APRIL 1988, INNSBRUCK, AUSTRIA. VOLUMES 1 - 3
Soil under creeping deformations is modeled either as an incompressible viscous fluid or a binary mixture of a viscous fluid matrix filled with an inviscid ideal fluid. Explicit expressions for the constitutive relation of stress are deduced and phenomenological coefficients are determined by means of laboratory and field data. The rate dependent constitutive models are compared with corresponding relations deduced from viscoplasticity. Finally, rate dependent sliding laws are presented. (Author/TRRL)
