GENERALIZED ASSIGNMENT METHODS FOR THE DEADLINE VEHICLE ROUTING PROBLEM. VEHICLE ROUTING: METHODS AND STUDIES. STUDIES IN MANAGEMENT SCIENCE AND SYSTEMS - VOLUME 16

This work concerns vehicle routing problems in which total tour length is to be minimized subject to constraints on vehicle capacities and time deadlines for serving the stops. The methods evaluated are based on the generalized assignment approach to the vehicle routing problem, with two primary extensions: i) use of local optimization procedures to modify tours to produce better time quality characteristics, and II) iterative cost adjustment techniques which produce clusters of stops which are progressively more likely to produce tours with good time quality measures.
