DRINKING AND DRIVING: SOME EXPLANATORY SOCIAL LEARNING HYPOTHESES COMPARING YOUNG MALE AND FEMALE DRIVERS. WOMEN, ALCOHOL, DRUGS AND TRAFFIC - PROCEEDINGS OF THE INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP, STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN, 29-30 SEPTEMBER, 1988

Using an investigatory approach based on the life story method, this study aims to highlight the points of similarity and divergence in the attitudes of young male and young female drivers (between the ages of 18 and 25) towards drinking and driving. Differences in the norms and beliefs derived from their experience of driving, drinking, and road accidents, and the significance they attach to these phenomena, are illustrated within the framework of social learning concepts.
