RANDSTAD ACCESSIBILITY PLAN: ROAD ENGINEERING ASPECTS. WORKING DAYS ON ROAD ENGINEERING 1988: PART 1: FLOW I DESIGN - MAINTENANCE - MANAGEMENT, CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS, EDE, NETHERLANDS, 26-27 MAY 1988

MOBILITEITSSCENARIO: WEGBOUWKUNDIGE ASPECTEN

Under the authority of the Dutch minister of transport and public works measures are being drawn up, as part of the so-called "randstad accessibility plan", for the optimisation and extension of the road network in this congested conurbation in the western part of the country. The aim of this is to protect commercial traffic between the economical centres of the country against delay. A solution to this problem in the road engineering field can be obtained by rapid execution of so-called "knit-on" constructions (road enlargements). Initial research yielded four geotechnical and three constructional possibilities. Although research into the feasibility of these alternatives has yet to be begun, it is still useful, considering the very short time allowed for the completion of the accessibility plan, to discuss these possibilities on road engineering study days.
