PREVENTION AND ELIMINATION OF POLLUTION/SILTING UP OF POROUS ASPHALT CONCRETE. WORKING DAYS ON ROAD ENGINEERING 1988: PART 1: FLOW I DESIGN - MAINTENANCE - MANAGEMENT, CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS, EDE, NETHERLANDS, 26-27 MAY 1988

VOORKOMEN EN OPHEFFEN VAN VERVUILING/DICHTSLIBBING VAN ZEER OPEN ASFALT

The voids content of porous asphalt concrete at verges silts up after a couple of years. This paper describes the results of tests undertaken to clean porous asphalt concrete verges by rinsing them with high pressure water jet from an adjusted pistoncar sweeper. Recommendations are also given to prevent the pollution of porous asphalt at verges. It appears that pollution exists mainly in the upper layer (upper cm). This pollution probably originates from condensation of polluted spray on to the verge rather than from dirt that is left behind by the passage of water underneath it. (TRRL)
