CHARACTERIZATION OF GROUND GRANULATED BLAST-FURNACE AND FLY ASHES AND THEIR HYDRATION IN PORTLAND CEMENT BLENDS
This study determined the heat evolution rate and total heat of hydration of different binders and other porperties such as particle size distribution, chemical composition, glass content, and compressive strength development. The information obtained provides the basis for the proportioning of concrete mixtures with low heat of hydration and adequate strength. The study found that the particle size analysis data correlate with the Blaine specific surfaces of the slags and fly ashes, showing trends to progressively finer distribution of particle sizes with increasing specific surface. The fly ashes seem to retard the heat evolution related to C3S (calcium silicate) hydration. Study findings are presented and discussed.
