DIRECT DRIVES FOR PRECISION ROBOTS
The article discusses servomotors and direct-drive motors that power robots. Servomotors generally power robots through speed reducers, an arrangement that limits position, acceleration, and accuracy. Powering robots with direct-drive motors improves performance, if stability and inertia problems can be overcome.
