HAZARDOUS MATERIALS ON CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS. HIGHWAY SUBCOMMITTEE ON CONSTRUCTION OF THE STANDING COMMITTEE ON HIGHWAYS

The State of Florida employs a set of guidelines to be followed prior to embarking upon a construction project to ascertain the existence of or potential of hazardous materials being discovered in project areas. They include identification of previous and current owners as far back as fifty years, all possible types of hazardous materials that may be associated with those types of businesses, and interacting with local enforcement agencies to determine prior problems. An evaluation of each parcel of land should be undertaken using aerial photos to view how the use of the land may have changed over time, interviewing local officials to find out what if any problems were encountered under previous owners and site assessments of each parcel rating them as to hazardous material potential.
