BEARING CAPACITY OF FOUNDATIONS IN SLOPES
Based on centrifuge tests reported in 1988, a method is described for designing foundations on slopes of cohesionless material such as sand and normally consolidated clay. It is noted that although the Gemperline's tests were carried out in a relatively small region close to the crest of the slope, the equation applies to a wider area which extends back from the crest to lambda values of up to three or more. It is also shown that a simple model modification can be made to extend the Gemperline predictions out under the slope with reasonable accuracy.
