SINGLE-HARDENING MODEL WITH APPLICATION TO NC CLAY

A constitutive model has been developed on the basis of thorough evaluation of data from experiments on frictional materials, and the framework for the development consisted of concepts contained in elasticity and work-hardening plasticity theories. The model employs a single isotropic yield surface shaped as an asymmetric tear drop with the pointed apex at the origin of the principal stress shape. Details of the model are described. The model is devised so that transition from hardening to softening occurs abruptly at peak failure point . The main principles of the model and the governing equations for each component are reviewed.
