QUICK PUSH SPANS HIGHWAY
A bulldozer was used to push a 210-ft-long, 2-span steel overpass into place over a busy highway. The 3-lane temporary bridge over the Long Island Expressway near New York City was assembled on rollers that enabled the contractor to span the highway in only an hour and 20 minutes. The temporary bridge is a steel orthotropic deck, and was assembled on an approach road that was built on the alignment of the temporary crossing. The details of the installation are briefly described.
