BART SURVIVES EARTHQUAKE AND WINS BACK PASSENGERS
Detailed is how the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system remained virtually unscathed during the October 17, 1989 earthquake which devastated one of the major commuter routes, the Oakland-San Francisco BAy bridge, and was not only able to maintain its scheduled runs, but was also able to handle the increased levels of riders who flocked to the system during the aftermath.
