KEEPING SCORE LOWERS TOLL
A new system is described, that will help traffic safety specialists interact directly with accident data without requiring computer expertise. It uses database management software developed specifically for traffic accident records analysis. The system uses CARE, City Accidents RAPID Evaluation, which is a microcomputer adaptation of RAPID and is designed for local agency officials. RAPID (Records Analysis for Problem Identification and Definition) was developed for statewide accident problem identification and evaluation. An example of the use of the system by traffic safety specialists is described. To construct a local database, the records for a particular CARE area are selected from the appropriate statewide database, reformatted and downloaded onto the local designated microcomputer. The article also discusses boolean searches.
