TRACKING TRACK GEOMETRY
Although track geometry cars are normally used to identify track defects, they are being used more and more as planning tools for determining rail renewal and tie renewal and surfacing cycles and with the aid of computers, to determine ballast cleaning and undercutting. Eventually, it is hoped that the cars will help project areas of track degradation, long-term maintenance and maintenance-of-way budgeting.
