MODAL SHIFT IN CANADIAN FREIGHT TRANSPORTATION

This research into the development and refinement of a model to forecast the interprovincial movement of end product freight in Canada is part of an ongoing project to study and investigate the economic impact of changing trucking industry vehicle weight and dimension (VWD) regulations on modal choice. This article reports on the development of a mathematical model designed to forecast the effects of changes in trucking service characteristics induced by VWD reform on the market share of freight carried by truck and railway modes. For purposes of this study, the article deals exclusively with the commodity section "end products, inedible."
