AVIATION FORECASTING METHODOLOGY. PART II - OTHER PERSPECTIVES. SUMMARY

The author summarizes the workshop presentations by speakers from outside the airline industry. The speakers considered other types of forecasting and sought to identify trends and factors that could have important effects on the future development of aviation. Much of the discussion involved social, economic, and technological trends that could result in structural changes in the way the aviation system is used--that is, changes that could greatly reduce the usefulness of forecast models using historical trends. The key theme developed by most speakers was the need to see the public as customers.
