SHOTCRETING INNOVATIONS IN THE SHING MUN TUNNELS

The ground conditions encountered during tunnel construction of the Shing Mun tunnels warranted flexibility with regard to shotcreting. Therefore, the contract was written in such a way that the engineer was allowed to determine where and when different types of shotcrete would be used. As a result, dry, mesh, steel fibre reinforced, and reinforced wet shotcrete were all used successfully to get the job done with no additional risk incurred for the project.
