In this description of the scour below pipelines exposed to waves, the the pipeline position is fixed, and in the main part of the experiments the pipe is placed on an originally plane bed. Some tests conducted on a pipe that has sagged are also described. It was found that lee-wake scour plays a key role in the process, and that the Keulegan-Carpenter number is the main parameter governing the equilibrium scour depth. The effect of position of the pipe with respect to the bed is an important parameter in determining the equilibrium scour depth.
