RELIABILITY CALIBRATION OF FATIGUE EVALUATION AND DESIGN PROCEDURES
It is noted that the fatigue provisions of the current AASHTO specifications (Standard Specifications 1984) are not suitable for estimating the remaining life of an existing bridge, and that they do not reflect actual fatigue conditons observed in bridges. This study develops a fatigue model, and describes a data base used in calibrating the fatigue design and evaluation procedures. The levels of reliability developed in the calibration are discussed, and the application of the design and evaluation methods are illustrated with examples.
