CIPP CALLS FOR QUALITY CONTROL ENGINEERING & FIELD INSPECTION

It is noted that although cast-in-place nonreinforced concrete pipe (CIPP) is gaining in popularity, it is one of the least understood systems from a design and construction standpoint. Proper quality control engineering and inspection is essential in the planning, design, and importantly, in its construction. The advantages of third party engineering/inspection firms to assist in feasibility studies, review and critique of design plans, and close inspection of the slip forming of CIPP is pointed out. Quality engineering/inspection procedures are described. There is a need for a preconstruction conference after soils review, plans specifications, and concrete mix design are completed. Proper moisture curing, form removal and inspection of CIPP, and backfill operations, as well as final inspection are described.
