TRUCK-TIRE STEEL GRID DECK CONTACT PRESSURE DISTRIBUTIONS
Research is reported which measured the contact pressure distribution between the tire and main/cross bars of open grid decks and developed simple design equations to establish the contact pressure distribution for designing grid decks. The study determined the contact pressure that exists beneath statically loaded truck tires using pressure-sensitive film. This data indicates what effects the tread pattern, tire inflation pressure, and axle loads have on the resulting tire-deck contact pressure distribution. The study resulted in satisfactory results for the design of open steel grid decks. Details of the study, its findings, and conclusions are presented.
