ANALYSIS PROCEDURE FOR RIBBED AND GRID PLATE SYSTEMS USED FOR BRIDGE DECKS
A methodology based on energy principles is used to analytically develop the deflection function characterizing the behavior of the stiffened plate systems, where the geometric dimensions of the systems fall within some selected practical ranges. The methodology is demonstrated by considering certain distributed and concentrated loading patterns. Detailied finite element analyses of a few selected cases were conducted to confirm and modify accordingly the choice of the deflection function. After validating the choice of the deflection function, a parameteric study was conducted, and the data collected were regressed to develop prediction equations for maximum deflection and moments characterizing the general behavior of the stiffened slab system.
