THREE-DIMENSIONAL STABILITY ANALYSIS OF CONCAVE SLOPES IN PLAN VIEW. DISCUSSION
This is the discussion of the paper of the above title by Zhang Xing, published in the June 1988, Vol 114, No. 6 of this journal. The discusser points out the need for clarification and demonstration of the 3-D slope stability analysis performance when limiting geometries are considered. The discussion is followed by a closure by Zhang Xing in which he aknowledges that for a given length of failure mass, a rigorous comparison must be restricted only to the critical slip surface, producing minimum factor of safety. These and other points raised by the discusser are considered.
