BACK IN THE U.S.S.R., RAILS LOOK TO U.S.
Burlington Northern, whose operating environment and commodities most closely mirror those of Soviet Siberia, was chosen to be part of a joint venture with the Soviet Union. It will help the Soviet rail system in management, data processing, car utilization and tracking in hopes that this venture will make Burlington Northern more competitive if and when a better rail route from Pacific ports across Siberia into Russia and Europe develop.
