MERCEDES-BENZ ACTIVE SAFETY SYSTEMS
Mercedes-Benz went to Arjeplog, Sweden, to test its newest safety systems. There are three separate systems. The simplest, but by no means simple, is ASD, an automatic locking differential. Next is ASR, acceleration skid control, which is the functional equivalent of ABS but designed to prevent skids in power-on mode rather than while braking. Finally there is 4MATIC, a computerized automatically engaging 4-wheel-drive system. This article provides a detailed report on how each system performed.
